Firefighter Killed Fighting Montana Wildfire

Falling tree kills firefighter at Lolo Peak fire

 

LOLO, Montana – A firefighter was killed on Wednesday afternoon while fighting the Lolo Peak wildfire southwest of Lolo, Montana according to KHQ and Missoula County Sheriff T. J. McDermott.

Local news media report that a medical crew was called for a firefighter that had been struck by a tree while working in the McClain Creek area. He was moved down to a landing zone and loaded onto a LifeFlight helicopter.

The name of the firefighter has not yet been released.

The Missoula County Sheriff’s Office is conducting an investigation of the incident.

This is the second time in two weeks that a firefighter in Montana has been killed by a falling tree. On July 19, Trenton Johnson was killed when a burning snag fell on him while he was fighting the Florence Fire.
