A wildfire that broke out Wednesday evening in Gloucester County has now spread to 150 acres and is 50% contained, officials said.

The Scotland Run Wildfire started in the area of Pennsylvania Avenue and Coles Mill Road in Franklin Township, the state Forest Fire Service said. The intersection is near Janvier Elementary School.

An initial report at 7 p.m. had the blaze at 75 acres and threatening 60 structures.

The fire service issued an update around 10:30 p.m. that lowered the number of threatened structures to 20, though the fire had doubled in size. No evacuations have been ordered.

“The Forest Fire Service remains on scene with fire engines, bulldozers and ground crews,” officials said on social media.

Crews were working in the area of Proposed and Pennsylvania avenues, a residential neighborhood near the elementary school on Wednesday evening, officials said.

The state Forest Fire Service listed the blaze as 0% contained as of 7 p.m., though no structures had been evacuated, officials said.

Both Proposed and Pennsylvania avenues remained open to local traffic Wednesday evening, authorities said.

Ground crews with fire engines were on the scene and an observation helicopter was called in earlier, according to authorities.

Local volunteer fire companies were providing protection to the structures threatened by the fire, officials said.
