Forest Fire Consumes Hundreds of Acres in New Jersey

Over 750 acres burned in Camden County

WINSLOW, N.J. (AP) — A forest fire that has consumed more than 750 acres in southern New Jersey continued to burn Wednesday, though authorities said it was not posing a threat to nearby homes or businesses.

The fire apparently started around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Winslow Wildlife Management Area in Camden County. Strong winds helped spread the blaze, and only about 10 percent of the fire had been contained by late Tuesday night.

The New Jersey Forest Fire Service was battling the blaze on the ground and through the air, but it wasn’t clear when the blaze might be fully contained.

No injuries were reported as of early Wednesday. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Officials said smoke from the blaze could cause some travel problems in the area.
