Abandoned Campfire Causes Colorado Wildfire

Parsnip Fire was discovered on Monday

 

 

SILVERTHORNE, Colorado – The Sopris Sun reports that 15 firefighters and a helicopter contained the spread of a wildfire caused by an abandoned campfire in the White River National Forest.

The Parsnip Fire was discovered on Monday approximately 11 miles southwest of Carbondale near South Thompson Creek. 

The fire burned in an area of heavy dead and downed aspen.

Fire restrictions for the White River National Forest prohibit campfires and charcoal fires of any type, as well as smoking outside of a building or vehicle.

The fire continues to be under investigation.
