Firefighters find fire threatening several homes

LOS ANGELES – A well-established brush fire quickly consumed one home but firefighter’s quick action and teamwork prevented the spread and further damage to the surrounding structures.

At 1:24PM on April 20, 2021, the Los Angeles City Fire Department responded to a reported brush fire in the 2800 block of N Sierra St in the Lincoln Heights neighborhood.

The first arriving fire company found a well-established fire in medium to heavy brush with a number of homes under immediate threat. Additional companies were requested as crews initiated fire attack.

A well coordinate air and ground attack, led by Assistant Chief Carlos Calvillo and executed by 146 firefighters on scene, held the fire to three acres. One property sustained extensive fire damage to the residence and multiple vehicles but firefighter’s defended the neighborhood and prevented any other homes from damage.

While no occupants were injured, one pet dog was pulled from the fire-involved structure and transferred to animal control for proper care of its serious burn injuries.

LAFD Arson and Counter-Terrorism Section responded for the cause investigation, per protocol. It remains an active investigation.
