Firefighters Stop Two Southern California Wildfires

Crews halt two wildfires

WINCHESTER, Calif. (AP) — Firefighters have made significant progress in corralling two Southern California wildfires.

Cal Fire says a fire that has burned nearly 2 square miles (5.2 square kilometers) in the semirural Winchester area of Riverside County was 40 percent contained overnight and its forward progress was stopped.

All evacuations were lifted late Thursday, about eight hours after it broke out in light vegetation about 80 miles (129 kilometers) southeast of Los Angeles.

On the Central Coast, a 60-acre (24-hectare) fire in the Santa Ynez Valley area of Santa Barbara County is expected to be full contained Friday morning.
