Eight assigned to Parker 2 Fire hurt in rollover near Cedarville
ALTURAS, California – Eight firefighters were injured Friday in a vehicle accident near Cedarville, according to the Oroville Mercury Register.
The firefighters are employees of Firestorm Wildland Fire Suppression Inc. based in Chico and were assigned to the Parker 2 Fire burning in the Warner Mountains eats of Alturas.
In a press release the company stated that five were treated for minor injuries and released from the hospital. Two were airlifted to hospitals for additional treatment and a third had surgery for internal damage caused by a seat belt. That firefighter is expected to have a full recovery.
The accident occurred on Highway 299 near Cedarville. The vehicle they were riding in overturned after it tried to avoid another vehicle that had swerved to avoid a deer.
The Parker 2 Fire had burned nearly 8,000 acres and was 55 percent contained.
